2011 Spring River Cleanup Volunteer Details
Neuse River Spring Cleanup, April 2, 2011 --The cleanup is good for the river and a great way to show your community spirit--
Please join us Saturday, April 2, 8am to 2pm (Rain or Shine)
Recycling is now an important piece of the Neuse River Cleanup. In past years, everything collected from the banks and bed of the Neuse has been carted away by trash trucks; this year we've decided to take the positive impact of the cleanup a step further. Cleanup site locations will have washing stations and separate colored bags available for recycling in order to reduce the amount of trash going to our landfills and save the County money and space. This can make a huge difference. During our trial run in October we diverted almost 40% of what we collected to a recycling facility - that's over 2,000 lbs of mostly bottles and cans!
Also, we are hoping to reduce the amount of plastic bottles we recycle by asking volunteers to bring their own water bottle. It can be an aluminum, plastic, or even a soda bottle that you are re-using. We will have water available to refill your bottle. Please bring your own water bottle and help us reduce our waste!
There are several Clean-up stations located along the Neuse River Check the map to locate the most convenient station There is an on site Coordinator to assist volunteers at each clean-up station Gloves and trash bags are provided
Volunteers will be cleaning up trash along the banks of the river, on the islands, and around access areas like bridges. We have clean-up stations located at canoe launch sites between Falls Dam and Smithfield Commons.
Please locate the most convenient station and come out between 8 and 9 am. (Paddlers will be on the river for 3-5 hours depending on the section of river. Volunteers working on land usually work for 2-3 hours.) PADDLERS should arrive around 8 AM to get an early start on the river. VOLUNTEERS on foot, cleaning the shoreline should arrive between 9 and 10 am.
Pre-registration is preferred, but not required, for families or small groups. To register please click "Register Now" above or email jessica@neuseriver.org If you would like to bring a larger civic or youth group (10<), please contact the Upper Neuse office.
